What the ASO score measures

  • Listing assets & metadata (30%): whether the listing has a complete icon, screenshots, preview video, and a substantial description.
  • Ratings & reviews (25%): the average star rating and how many ratings back it — strong social proof for ranking and conversion.
  • Keyword footprint (30%): how many keywords the app tracks and how many it ranks for in the top 10 and top 50.
  • Open issues (15%): ASO problems the recommendation engine flags, such as rank drops or keyword gaps.

All metrics are model estimates derived from public app-store data — not official Apple or Google figures. Use them directionally.

Frequently asked questions

What is an ASO score?

An ASO score is a single 0–100 estimate of how well an app is optimized for app-store discovery and conversion. This grader weights four areas — listing assets and metadata, ratings and reviews, keyword footprint, and open issues — into one grade, and shows each sub-score so you can see exactly what to fix.

How is the ASO score calculated?

It combines public App Store and Google Play data: whether the listing has a complete set of assets (icon, screenshots, preview video, description), the app’s average rating and rating count, how many keywords it tracks and ranks for (in the top 10 and top 50), and how many open ASO issues the recommendation engine flags. Each factor is scored 0–100 and weighted into the overall grade.

Is the ASO Grader free?

Yes — it’s free with no signup or email required. Search your app, get an instant score and prescriptive fixes, and optionally open the full workspace to track it over time.

Are the scores official Apple or Google figures?

No. Every metric is a model estimate derived from public app-store data, not an official Apple or Google number. Use the grade directionally to prioritize ASO work, not as an absolute measure.
