ASO Glossary

Keyword Popularity

Definition

A score estimating how much search demand a keyword has — how often users actually search for it.

What it means

Keyword popularity (sometimes shown as a 0–100 score) estimates relative search demand: how frequently store users type that term. A higher score means more potential traffic if you rank well.

Popularity alone does not guarantee value. A popular keyword is often also difficult, and a popular term that is irrelevant to your app will drive traffic that does not convert. Popularity is best read alongside difficulty and relevance.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between popularity and search volume?

They measure the same underlying thing — how much a keyword is searched. Popularity is usually a normalized 0–100 score for easy comparison, while search volume is an estimated count of searches (often monthly).
