Low-Competition Keyword
Definition
A keyword with a low difficulty score, meaning the apps ranking for it are relatively weak and easier to outrank.
What it means
A low-competition keyword has a low difficulty score: the apps currently ranking for it aren’t strongly entrenched, so a newer app has a realistic chance to break into the top results. These are the highest-leverage targets in ASO.
The best low-competition keywords still have real search volume. A keyword nobody searches is easy to rank for but worthless; the goal is the overlap of low difficulty and meaningful demand.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find low-competition keywords?
Look for keywords that combine a low difficulty score with non-trivial search volume, and that are genuinely relevant to your app. ASO tools surface these by filtering difficulty and volume together.
