ASO Glossary

App Metadata

Definition

The text and assets in your store listing that the store uses to index and display your app.

What it means

App metadata is everything in your listing the store reads and shows: app name/title, subtitle (iOS), keyword field (iOS), short and long descriptions (Android), category, icon, screenshots, and preview media. Some fields are indexed for search; others mainly drive conversion.

Optimizing metadata means putting your most important keywords in the highest-weighted, indexed fields while keeping the visible copy readable and persuasive. Metadata is the main lever you directly control in ASO.

Frequently asked questions
