Keyword Stuffing

Definition

Overloading app metadata with repeated or irrelevant keywords in an attempt to game rankings.

What it means

Keyword stuffing is cramming as many keywords as possible — often repeated or only loosely relevant — into your title, subtitle, or description. It is an outdated tactic that store algorithms penalize and that hurts conversion by making listings read as spam.

Modern ASO favors relevance over repetition. You generally only need to include a keyword once for the store to index it, so the goal is broad, relevant coverage with readable, persuasive copy.

Frequently asked questions

Does repeating a keyword help it rank?

No. Both Apple and Google index a keyword from a single mention, and repetition wastes valuable metadata space while risking a spam signal. Use each metadata slot for distinct, relevant terms.
